Basics in Omiya

Today in Omiya we worked on the proper timing and positioning of the hands in hiriki no yosei ichi. A seemingly simple movement, however done correctly takes time and effort.

Next, katate mochi nikajo osae ni (standing and sitting). The focus was on the movements between the form. It`s easy to lose connection and flow when practicing basic techniques in their broken down form.  Finished the class with jiyuwaza. Relaxing and trying to fit with our partner.

Chest grab techniques

Working on some chest grasp techniques at this morning`s Meiryukan Omiya training.

Similar to shoulder grasp, however being grasped in your center opposed to the outside of your body calls for bigger movements to break uke`s balance.

Also rotating the hips has little effect on the gripping point making things a little more complicated. Hence Mune mochi being on the 2dan and above test syllabus, whereas kata mochi comes in from 3rd kyu.
