Test training in Omiya 11/29

Mother and daughter getting ready for their upcoming 8th kyu test.

Yesterday we worked on katate mochi shihonage ichi/ni and shomen uchi ikkajo osae ichi/ni.

Learning both the shite/uke movements has been a handful, but they are progressing nicely. Their movements are getting bigger, smoother and I am seeing a lot more confidence in their basics.

Owada 11/1

Fall tests are finished and we are back to regular training at the Meiryukan Omiya club.

Today we worked on 4 different tai sabaki, as well as shomen uchi ikkajo nage, and shomen uchi yonkajo osae ichi.

The Omiya Budokan mats are hard and cold, great for suriashi but not so good for beginners practicing break falls.
We started from the basic front somersault and slowly worked our way into Yoshinkan zenpo kaiten ukemi. After only about 20mins we were into ikkajonage without any problems.

It was the first time with yonkajo, so took sime time figuring out the grip. Always a tough technique to get the students to not focus on causing pain and more on breaking their partners balance. Another fun class. Visitors always welcome!
